📖 About this Book

Daphne Bridgerton is intelligent, warm, and surrounded by eligible gentlemen, but somehow they all see her as a friend rather than a potential wife.

Simon Basset, the handsome and notoriously unavailable Duke of Hastings, has absolutely no intention of marrying. So when Daphne and Simon devise a plan to pretend they are courting, it seems perfect. Simon will finally escape the marriage-minded mothers of London, while Daphne will suddenly appear far more desirable to other gentlemen.

Naturally, because fictional characters apparently enjoy making life unnecessarily complicated, their fake courtship begins feeling dangerously real.

The Duke and I is the first book in Julia Quinn’s Bridgerton series, filled with Regency society, family drama, witty banter, and romance.

❤️ Why Sumaia Recommends It

This was a fun introduction to the Bridgerton family, and I really enjoyed the family dynamics, Regency atmosphere, and the banter between Daphne and Simon.

Their fake relationship creates plenty of entertaining moments, and Simon’s past adds more emotional depth to the story.

For me, though, it was a 3-star read rather than a favorite. There were parts of the relationship that I didn’t completely connect with, but I still enjoyed the overall Bridgerton world enough to continue with the series.
