๐ About this Book
Set in Nazi Germany during World War II, The Book Thief follows Liesel Meminger, a young girl sent to live with foster parents Hans and Rosa Hubermann.
Liesel cannot initially read, but with Hansโs patient help, she discovers the power of words and begins stealing books whenever she can. As the war grows more dangerous, the Hubermanns secretly shelter a Jewish man named Max Vandenburg in their basement, placing the entire family at enormous risk.
Narrated by Death, the novel tells a heartbreaking story about childhood, friendship, courage, loss, and the extraordinary power words can hold during humanityโs darkest moments.

โค๏ธ Why Sumaia Recommends It
This is one of those books that reminds you why stories matter.
The narration by Death makes it feel completely different from a typical historical novel, but what stayed with me most is the relationship between Liesel, Hans, Rudy, and Max. There is so much tenderness inside such a devastating period of history.
It is emotional, beautifully written, and heartbreaking without losing its sense of humanity. A book about war, but also about kindness, friendship, books, and the people who choose to do good when the world around them is doing the opposite.
