This is definitely not a comforting book, and the main character is not written to be lovable. That is exactly what makes it so interesting.
I love books that make you question the character instead of simply rooting for her, and this one does that constantly. It is strange, dark, cynical, and sometimes absurd, but underneath all of that is a story about grief, emptiness, and wanting to escape your own life.
It is the kind of book that will either fascinate you or irritate you terribly. Possibly both, because apparently literature enjoys making us suffer recreationally.
