๐ About this Book
Seventy-two-year-old Carl Kollhoff has a very particular routine. Every evening, he walks through his small town delivering carefully chosen books by hand to his loyal customers. He knows their reading tastes so well that finding the right book for each person has become almost a language of its own.ย
Then nine-year-old Schascha suddenly begins joining him on his rounds. She is curious, outspoken, and considerably less interested in respecting Carlโs carefully ordered life than Carl might prefer. As their unlikely friendship grows, Schascha begins helping Carl see that his customers may need more than the books they usually request. They may need connection, courage, and one another.ย
Warm, charming, and deeply bookish, The Door-to-Door Bookstore is ultimately about friendship, community, loneliness, and the extraordinary ability of books to bring people together.ย

โค๏ธ Why Sumaia Recommends It
This is exactly the kind of gentle book-about-books that feels like a little hug for readers.
I loved the relationship between Carl and Schascha and how their friendship slowly changes not only them, but the people around them too. It is sweet without feeling completely shallow, and underneath all the coziness there are thoughtful themes about loneliness, aging, grief, and finding your place in a community.
And obviously, any story built around someone personally delivering the perfect book to people already has an unfair advantage with me. ๐๐
