From Our Fantasy Box

📖 About this Book Cursed is a dark reimagining of the Arthurian legend, told through the story of Nimue, the young woman destined to become the Lady of the Lake. After her village is destroyed by the Red Paladins, Nimue is entrusted with an ancient sword and sent on a dangerous mission to find the legendary sorcerer Merlin. Penguin

Along the way, she crosses paths with a young mercenary named Arthur and becomes caught in a brutal conflict involving magic, power, religion and the fate of her people. The novel was written by Thomas Wheeler and illustrated by Frank Miller, giving it a particularly cinematic feel. Simon & Schuster Canada

❤️ Why Sumaia Recommends It This is a much darker take on King Arthur than the usual heroic legend, and that is exactly what makes it interesting. I like that Nimue is placed at the centre of the story instead of being treated as a side character. There is magic, violence, political conflict and a heroine slowly discovering just how powerful she really is. Very much a “the old legend, but make it chaotic” situation.
