Beautiful World, Where Are You follows best friends Alice and Eileen, two women approaching thirty while trying to make sense of friendship, love, work, desire, and the increasingly complicated world around them.

Alice, a successful novelist recovering from a difficult period, moves to a small seaside town where she meets Felix, a warehouse worker. Meanwhile in Dublin, Eileen is recovering from a breakup and finds herself drawn once again to Simon, a man she has known since childhood. As the four become entangled in relationships, Alice and Eileen exchange long emails about their personal lives and much bigger questions involving politics, culture, beauty, faith, and what it means to live meaningfully. 

It is very much a Sally Rooney novel: intimate, conversational, sometimes uncomfortable, and more interested in the complicated ways people connect than in giving you tidy answers. Humanity apparently refuses to communicate normally, so naturally we get an entire novel out of it.
