These two books show completely different sides of Stephen King, and that is exactly why I like this pairing.
11/22/63 is much more than a thriller. It has history, time travel, romance, suspense and that constant question of whether changing the past is actually worth the consequences. It is a long book, but the story pulls you into Jake’s life so completely that the length starts to feel justified. Humanity apparently needed nearly 900 pages to learn that meddling with time is a terrible idea.
Misery is much tighter and more claustrophobic. Annie Wilkes is one of those characters who makes you uncomfortable every time she appears because you never quite know what she will do next. The fear comes less from supernatural horror and more from being completely trapped with someone unpredictable.
Together, they are perfect for readers who want Stephen King beyond traditional horror.
